How to post
There are several ways to create a new post. In this article we will cover the most common method of posting a plain-text message.
First, go to the top of your Stream or your Channel Home page, and click/tap the box labeled Share. This will open a post-editing box.
Who should be able to read your post? For most new users, by default, only your connections will see your post. You can change your default (not covered in this article), or you can change the permissions for any new post. Look for the padlock icon at the bottom of the edit box:
"unlocked" means that your post will be visible to the public
"locked" means that the audience is restricted in some way
Click/tap the padlock to see or change the permissions. From the "Who can see this?" list, select:
- Public
- Connections
- a list you have created (Friends, etc)
- a group you have joined
- Only me
- Custom selection:
- For each entry, select "Show" to allow viewing.
- You can also select a list you have created. The members of that list will be highlighted.
- "Don't show" lets you override and limit the scope of "Show".
- Use the Search bar to filter a long list.
Add an optional title in the Title box. (Many Fediverse services such as Mastodon will ignore the title, so make sure your post is comprehensible without it.)
Write the body of your post in the Share box.
You can click/tap the eye icon to preview your post.
When you're done, click/tap the Share button to send your post. You're done!
